CONTEST CONDITIONS CATEGORY (B)

The competition in the Category (B), a quartet of saxophones, is open to the sax players of all nationalities. The mean age of the participants in the group may not be above 35 years, prior to the July 21, 2023.

To formalize the participation in the Contest, you must fill out the registration form before May 30, 2023, in which you must attach the following additional information:

Risk group photo

Transfer proof of payment of registration

Sovereign copy of national identity card of all the components

Transfer authorization signed by the legal guardian, in the event that any member of the group to be under 18 years of age before July 21, 2023

Transfer copy of the script of the pieces free of the different phases (Semifinals and Final)

The limit of groups, participants will be 15 quartets, which will be selected by strict order of registration. The organization of the event will announce, through the channels of communication, when the quota of participants is complete. Registration fees are non-refundable in any circumstances.

The submission of the registration form implies the unconditional acceptance of these rules.

The Competition consists of 2 Phases:

SEMIFINALS: face to face

FINAL PHASE: face to face

2.- SEMIFINALS (FACE-TO-FACE)

Friday, July 21, will be held the SEMIFINALS the Auditorio de Teror from 9:30h. The order of participation of the quartets will be published in the official website of the Festival and for this there will be a draw prior undertaken by the organizing committee of the Contest.

The quartets will be presented at the place of the contest 20 minutes before their performance. The absence of the quartet at the assigned time of performance shall be deemed to be a withdrawal from the contest. The quartets will have available a room of warming assigned by the organizing committee, from 20 minutes prior to their performance. Must visit the stage 5 minutes before the start of the schedule of performance assigned to it.

In this phase, each quartet will perform two works. The maximum duration of this test will be 20 minutes, at which time the jury will conclude the test and will move to the next quatrain.

Works:

Work required: Quatuor de Saxophones (Ida Gotkovsky) – IV. Scherzo and V. Finale

Free work (original or transcript) with a maximum length of 10’

You will select a maximum of 5 teams for the Final Phase, which will be announced at 20:30, and before the concert scheduled during the Festival.

3.- FINAL PHASE

Sunday, July 23, will be held the FINAL PHASE in Auditorio de Teror from 12:00h. The order of participation of the quartets will be published on the website of the Festival and for this there will be a draw prior undertaken by the organizing committee of the Contest.

Applicants will be presented to the place of the contest for 30 minutes prior to their performance. The absence of the quartet at the assigned time of performance shall be deemed to be a withdrawal from the contest.

In this phase, each applicant will perform two works. The maximum duration of the test for each applicant will be of 30 minutes, at which time the jury will conclude the test and will move to the next applicant.

Work required: Cities – Guillermo Lago (Sarajevo – Addis Ababa – Tokyo)

Piece free (original or transcript) with a maximum duration of 15’

4.- GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS OF THE PHASES

The performance order of the parts and/or movements in the different phases will be at the discretion of each quartet.

The instrumentation of the parts is not mandatory shall be free and shall be composed or adapted for four performers. All phases will be open to the public and broadcasted by streaming.

5.- THE JURY

The jury's deliberation will take place after each Phase. The Jury's decisions are final and will be announced at the end of each Phase and before the evening concert scheduled. The teams eliminated in each Phase will have the opportunity to share their findings with the members of the jury. The jury reserves the right not to grant any/any prize.

6.- PRICES

The registration fee for the SEMIFINALS AND FINAL PHASE of the Contest: 160 €.

7.- LOAN OF SAXOPHONES FOR THE CONTEST

The organization of the contest will have and assign, to the quartets that request, the following saxophones:

  • 1 Tenor Saxophone Selmer Series III

  • 1 Baritone Saxophone Selmer Series III

  • 1 Baritone Saxophone Selmer Series II

The request of the saxophones will be made via the contest entry form. It will be a mandatory requirement for the loan of the saxophones, bring your mouthpiece staff, clamp and reeds (tenor or baritone) and your pendant or harness.

8.- AWARDS

We announce the following Awards:

1st Prize: 2000€ (1750€ + 250€ in accessories courtesy Musical Accessories) + concert at the Gran Canaria Sax Festival 2024

2nd Prize: 1000€ (750€ + 250€ in accessories and Selmer or Vandoren)

3rd Prize: 500€ (400€ + 100€ in accessories and Selmer or Vandoren)

9.- TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATION

The travel and accommodation expenses will be borne by the quartet. The organization will provide a list of hotels.

10.- RIGHTS OF PUBLICITY AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

By submitting the registration form, the applicant authorizes the organization to use their name, biographical details and image in relation to the contest. The GRAN CANARIA SAX FESTIVAL, as the contest organizer, is the exclusive owner of all intellectual property that is and is related to the contest. This includes but is not limited to all rights of any recording, photograph, video and/or transmission/emission (live, deferred, or future), in all the formats current and/or future, on a national and international level, of all the stages and performances. The quartets will not be entitled to any compensation. The proceedings of the contest will be broadcast live on the page of Facebook of the Festival.

11.- RESPONSIBILITY

The organization shall not be responsible for any accident that may occur to the applicant for their participation in the contest, or loss or damage to your tool or personal effects. It is recommended to have medical and travel insurance.

12.- OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

The decisions of the organization to all matters not included in these rules shall be final. In the case of an appeal, the submissions must be written in Spanish or English.
